The New Nihco Gallo Trio (feat. Ayan Imai-Hall and Scott Kiefner)

In his New Trio, vibraphonist Nihco Gallo is joined by tap dancer Ayan Imai-Hall and bassist Scott Kiefner for an eclectic tour of American music from the first half of the 20th century: from the wistful swing standards of Benny Goodman and Lionel Hampton to the lush tangos of Astor Piazzolla to the playful Brazilian choro of Jacob do Bandolim. With an appetite for improvisation and a knack for swing, The New Nihco Gallo Trio deftly interweaves rhythm and melody in a visceral performance experience that is unlikely to be forgotten.

Nihco Gallo is an award-winning vibraphonist whose performances span the worlds of jazz, Brazilian music, minimalism, and the avant-garde. In addition to leading his own ensembles and solo projects, Gallo has maintained frequent associations with Chris Klaxton, David Newsam, Barry Saunders, and Sig Shalome, and performs regularly as a member Flying Home: the Music of Benny Goodman, and as a frequent guest with Portland’s Choro Louco.

New Hampshire native Ayan Imai-Hall started tap dancing when he was eight years old and since then, has performed across the nation with companies including Atlantic Steps, Tap Kids, Tapestry, and Subject:Matter. In 2012, Ayan was awarded a Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Grant by the New Hampshire State Council on the Arts with blues musician and educator, TJ Wheeler.

Scott Kiefner is a versatile and in-demand bassist who has performed and/or recorded with Vinx, Delfeayo Marsalis, Bill McHenry, Matt Wilson, and many more. In addition to a busy freelance schedule, he performs regularly as a member of Sojoy, OURBIGBAND, and the Soggy Po Boys throughout New England and beyond.
