Jazz Casual is a new summer concert series showcasing an eclectic array of local and national talent. The kick-off concert features the Scott Kiefner Trio. Bassist Scott Kiefner forms a trio to prod the boundaries of familiar songs, and find familiarity in new ones. Kiefner has long been inspired by the relentless creativity of saxophonist Chet Doxas and drummer RJ Miller, and can’t wait for this auspicious meeting.

Chet Doxas is a Juno nominee and has appeared on over one hundred recordings. He has released eight albums as a leader and co-leader. He has worked with a wide range of artists including, Carla Bley, Steve Swallow, John Abercrombie, Dave Douglas, Rufus Wainwright, Maria Schneider, and Michael Formanek. Chet’s formal musical studies were completed at McGill University where he earned both undergraduate and graduate degrees in music. When he is not touring he can be found in his Brooklyn recording studio working on his next projects or producing other artists.

Long a fixture on the NYC and European jazz/experimental scenes, RJ has performed and recorded with artists such as George Garzone, Ben Street, Bill McHenry, Eric Revis, Hugo Rasmussen, Meshell N’degeocello, Larry Grenadier, Jorge Rossy, and Aaron Parks, to name a few.

Beginning in the 1950s and continuing in the new millennium with the influx of amazing talent, the Seacoast has been home to an amazing community of composers, improvisers, and performers dedicated to preserving the Jazz tradition as well as innovating new and personal expressions of the music. The presence of jazz and other improvised musics has enriched the community and inspired generations of artists and audiences.
