This performance will feature Cecil Abels, Lindsay Lassonde, Dan Beller-McKenna, and John Hal Halsted from the band Gold Plated Door (with possibly some surprise guests!). Formed in 2019 to perform a tribute show to Gram Parsons' first LP, Gold Plated Door plays a range of country and alternative styles under the larger umbrella of cosmic American music. They continue to focus on the core repertoire established by Parsons, including his work with the Byrds (Sweetheart of the Rodeo, 1968) and the Flying Burrito Brothers (Gilded Palace of Sin,1969; Burrito Deluxe, 1970). Blending a traditional fiddle and pedal-steel driven country sound with a poetic lyricism that could only come from rock of the 1960s, Bud Scoppa identified cosmic American music in 1972 as Southern-boy innocence tossed between staunch traditions and the complex, ambiguous modern world. Gold Plated Door explores the country sources that led to this style (Nashville, Bakersfield, Honky-Tonk) as well as the various alternative country styles that followed in Parsons wake down to the present day.
