Story of "Christmasland Jubilee:

In a rustic one room schoolhouse in South Berwick, Maine at the age of five a young Dan Blakeslee played sleigh bells alongside his father to The Chipmunks song “Christmas Don’t Be Late”. It has always been one of his favorite childhood memories around the holiday season and he has been an avid Christmas music enthusiast ever since.

Blakeslee started writing Christmas songs in 2006 for his family as gifts on his meager home recording gear. He had been dreaming of making a full length studio Christmas record with his band The Calabash Club for a decade. Every December would go by feeling too busy with the hustle and bustle of the holidays to make an album like this. Then five days before Christmas in 2019 he called studio engineer friend Chris Chase to see if he could get in to record before December 25th that year…he said yes! So on a cold winter night the first session began with snow on the ground and the magic of Christmas in the air and his band The Calabash Club ( Mike Effenberger, Nick Phaneuf and Jim Rudolf ) soon joined him. Not one ounce of irony was recorded in this album, it is a sincere, heartfelt, rollicking holiday listening experience. Dan Blakeslee and the Calabash Club formed in 2008 and this is their third album together.

Short BIO:

With a suitcase of songs, Maine folk troubadour Dan Blakeslee ventured into the subways of Boston in 1995 to practice his craft. His songs of true life adventures combine the essence of early folk music with a dose of country grit. His band The Calabash Club provide an audible framework and twangy hooks to Blakeslee's bluesy saloon anthems. Nick Phaneuf (bass) and Jim Rudolf (drums) are loyally synchronized, and their tasteful approach to rhythm provides a solid structure inside of which Mike Effenberger (organ, accordion) adds an emotional and timeless quality to Blakeslee’s songs. They release a full length Christmas album called "Christmasland Jubilee" in December of 2020.
