Borscht is a 4 piece acoustic project based out of Newmarket NH.
With a tasty blend of classic folk, jazz and bluegrass tunes, Borscht creates an atmosphere of joy and excitement.
Borscht also plays a variety of original songs composed by their guitarist Andrew Polakow.
Andrews' songs reflect a variety of sentiments and styles.
Andrew Polakow: Guitar/Banjo/Vocals
Brady Megee: Mandolin/Guitar/Backing Vocals
Max Elkus: Percussion/Backing
Zac Arnault: Upright Bass/Backing Vocals
Borscht Originally formed in 2012 as a bluegrass duo with Andrew Polakow and Brady Megee meeting at a bus stop in Dover NH. Not too long after that they added a 3rd member. (Chris Foster/Violin)
Shortly thereafter Borscht was playing music on a pier. The jams became so epic that it opened up a portal to another world. Sadly, an interdimensional space monster came through the portal and fused with the body of the violinist.
The space creature exclaimed,
"You have broken the barrier between WHAT IS, and WHAT CAN BE... and now your friend with the violin must come with me"
For many years Borscht carried on as a duo.
They took any opportunity to make music as a chance to reopen the portal.
They played barns, house parties, backyards, rooftops and they even played bars but nothing seemed to be working.
So in 2022 they decided it was time to get someone to help.
They recruited the #1 rated percussionist in the world "Max Elkus", as well as North America's greatest upright bassist Zac Arnault to their band. This act revolutionized their musical pursuits and the jams became incredible.
Halfway through their first practice though, things began to get spooky.
Brady Megee was playing a solo bluegrass jig on his mandolin, when out of nowhere, an ethereal countermelody started reverberating around the room. It was screechy yet haunting, and it's source was unknown.
The rest of the band joined in and started to jam.
Andrew pulled a porcelain guitar slide from his pocket and performed a glissando he learned from a sherpa in the Himalayan mountains. The sound of the guitar sliding must of broken some sort of barrier in the cosmic plane, because suddenly the portal was open.
There he stood. This ghastly ancient looking version of their old friend.
We stood in the portal wielding his violin and a bow strung with the hair of a unicorn's tale.
And then,
Just as soon as the portal opened, it was closed.
Their friend was gone and the haunting violin music was no more.
So now Borscht continues to play.
Every practice and every performance is an opportunity to reopen the portal and save their friend from his extradimensional fate.
So if you like folk music and if you like saving your best friends from interdimensional space creatures BORSCHT IS THE BAND FOR YOU!
