Sat 10/1 @ 1:00 pm – 5:00 pm EDT
Love to make art? Want to be part of something bigger than yourself and contribute to positive social change? Then you’re invited to join with other artists at Green Acre Bahá’í Center of Learning on Sat Oct 1st, from 1:00 – 5:00 PM, for an afternoon of meaningful conversation and artmaking centered around the theme of Green Acre’s upcoming art exhibit The Creative Power of Unity.
For the past 5 years Green Acre has been using art as a tool for engaging in conversations that explore Justice Through Beauty, and we’re at it again. This time we aren’t just asking for art submissions for our upcoming show, we’re creating a space to ponder the themes inherent in the exhibit and to create art! This is not only for professional artists, but for all who long to create—everyone deserves to make art! And in this spirit, this gathering is free of charge.
Engage in meaningful small group conversations about the creative power of unity and what it entails and implies and take an opportunity to spend hours on Green Acre’s beautiful campus, making art of your choice. The art you make, whether it’s choreography or a piece of clothing, does not need to be completed on October 1st, and you are welcome to submit it to be in the art show any time before the deadline of October 20th. You are also under no obligation to submit it to the show, (likewise there is no guarantee that it will be selected to be in the show, but we hope you submit it!).
Art supplies will be provided by Green Acre and you are also welcome to bring your own if you wish. There will be collective and individual art making stations set up throughout campus, so you’ll have the opportunity to create with others or create in solitude—whichever you prefer.
Our art room will be set up for those who wish to paint. Beautiful, handmade, wooden benches are scattered across Green Acre’s campus, positioned in serene spots for you to take a vantage of – great for writing poetry or sketching! The open-air porches at Green Acre are sunny and wide with tables and chairs to provide workspaces, and our stage beckons you to create a performance piece! Enjoy the labyrinth, the beach, or the forested walking trails as you contemplate the themes of the show and how you’d like to represent them through art.
The Creative Power of Unity exhibit welcomes art of all mediums, from music, poetry and plays to paintings and carvings. Visual art is by no means the only medium we except or display in our shows. If you’ve been itching to give yourself time and space to make art—this is it.
Participation is free, but we do ask that you register below so we have a sense of how many people to prepare for. We look forward to being with you on Saturday, October 1st from 1:00 – 5:00 PM! And if you can’t make it for the whole afternoon, come for part and join us when you can!
