Pocket Gardens of Portsmouth Tour
presented by South Church - Unitarian Universalist
June 25 from 5 - 8 pm & June 26, 10 am - 4pm Tickets good either day
$20 in advance (tickets go on sale May 6) $25 day-of at our tour headquarters: Strawbery Banke Museum, 14 Hancock St., Portsmouth, NHOnly in Portsmouth can you sit in a flower-bedecked park, sip hand-squeezed lemonade, listen to a band play your favorite songs, and watch a hundred-thousand-ton cargo freighter cruise by on slack tide. And only in Portsmouth can you poke around in private gardens that date back 400 years. This year’s self-guided tour lets you wander through the South End, founded in 1623, continuously a small welcoming neighborhood that could pass for Colonial America but for the power lines overhead. And behind most quaint houses lurks a unique garden. It might be a take on a Medieval Knot Garden, or a Formal English Garden, or a colonial hash of flowers, herbs, and veggies mixed higgledy-piggledy. There’s only one way to see them all. 15 gardens within an easy walk at your own pace. Each special in its own way, some with music, some with ribbons, all with cookies!
COVID protocol: In accordance with the City of Portsmouth ordinance, please wear masks when touring each garden, observe 6-foot distance as much as possible, and bring your own water bottle. Enter and exit gardens as noted by our volunteers, and thank you in advance for your patience in waiting to enter gardens due to restricted numbers.Sponsored by: Bedrock Gardens, Eldredge Lumber, Portsmouth Vacuum, Seacoast Dwellings
